Perspex Acrylic / Plastic

In-house, we can supply and cut from 2mm to 6mm perspex, up to an area of 600mm x 300mm.

Etching is also available on items, to produce corporate awards, promotional items, POS displays, to name a few applications.  Etched areas can also be paint filled in house to create different effects and finishes.

Pre-cut and fabricated blocks which have been diamond polished - anywhere up to 40mm can be used for this and are very popular where a premium and high class look is required.

Combination etch/cut jobs are also a possibility on our equipment - efficiently processed from one file.  See our Templates + FAQ page for details on file setup.

Some popular colours include ivory, white, black, clear, red, green, orange, yellow and the such.  Cut perspex logos can also be overlayed with a colour vinyl film to create colours not normally available.  Click on the below image to enlarge an example of this process - using 6mm clear acrylic, overlaid with self adhesive vinyl.

In general, coloured perspex is only available in 3mm.  All other thicknesses usually only carry 2mm, 3mm, 4.5mm, 6mm and up.  These colours are black, white and clear.

Where a PMS Pantone match is required for corporate identity, and laying vinyl is not an option, laser cut acrylic lettering may also be spray painted with auto grade 2 pack paint.  These can then easily be stuck to reception areas, meeting rooms and the such.

We also offer professional installation.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

I want to supply the file.  In what format should I supply it?

Preferably, in native Adobe Illustrator CS4 or below format.  Set up your document in RGB colour mode, and set your cut lines as R=255 G=0 B=0.  To preview your artwork, and to ensure there are no unwanted cut lines, you can switch to "outline preview" mode.  On a PC, the shortcut key is Ctrl+Y - you can also access it by going to View -> Outline.

What is the maximum cutting area?

We can cut up to 600mm x 300mm in-house.  If your project includes work which requires larger than this, we can outsource to one of our suppliers.

How long does it take?

This all depends on the nature of your job, however we are able to give you an accurate turn around time when supplied with an artwork of the job, as well as material (thickness and specs) and quantity.  We have found that in general, we are able to turn around most jobs within approximately 3 to 5 working days.

What if I want to supply my own material?

For certain types of material, this is possible.  Before proceeding with the job however, you must approve a spot test on an offcut which you supply to us.  As a result, keep in mind turn around time will be increased by 2-3 days.  Some plastics are not laserable, not only because of their appearance when lasered, but because they emit toxic fumes which damage the environment, people and machinery.  The most commonly asked about plastic is PVC.  The C in PVC stands for chloride.  As a result, when this is lasered it emits chlorine gas, which is a corrosive.  We do not cut PVCs.
